  • Cultural management – cannot usually be used in isolation but should maximize control from fungicides:
    • Reduce shade and maximize air movement
    • Maximize drainage where possible through frequent topdressing and aerification, and improving surface and subsurface drainage where practical
    • Reducing soil pH
    • Maintain moderate but not excess nitrogen on actively growing grasses
    • Iron sulphate applied at 12–24kg per hectare every other week according to recent research in the USA
    • Regular lightweight rolling according to recent research in the USA
  • Management with fungicides
  • Under high pressure maintain a consistent program of preventative fungicide applications throughout the autumn, winter, and spring. Like with most foliar diseases, limiting inoculum even in the absence of symptoms is critical to maximize long-term control.
  • Rotate fungicides with different modes of action to reduce the chances of resistant populations developing. Resistance to fungicides has been reported in Microdochium in the USA.
  • Use flat fan nozzles for better spray coverage versus nozzles producing larger droplets, check product label for more details.
  • Bayer solutions – both Interface® Stressgard and Dedicate® provide effective preventative and curative control.
